My name is Emma Glover and I live near Cirencester, Gloucestershire with my husband and three children, William who was born in 1996 and my twin daughters Matilda and Amelia who were born in 1999. I have had a total of nine pregnancies, sadly seven ended in miscarriage, it wasn't until 1998 that I was diagnosed with Anti-phospholipid antibodies (Hughes syndrome) and successfully treated.
I discovered Doulas when I had had my daughters, we were living in London at the time and my husband hired what turned out to be a disastrous maternity nurse. A friend suggested hiring a doula. I had never heard of them and after a little research found a postnatal doula who brightened my day and made the early days of having twins an absolute joy. She lifted the entire household and made the transition from having one small child to three under the age of three so much easier than I could have imagined.
We moved to Gloucestershire in 2001 and I began to look into doula training. I eventually found Nurturing Birth through the Doula UK website and completed the course in November 2005. My own births were very different. My son was born by ventouse after a very lengthy labour and although I was lucky enough to have a midwife with me on a one to one basis I told my husband that if I ever had another baby I wanted a home birth. Unfortunately, given the antibodies I carry and the fact I was having twins the hospital refused to let me do this but I did birth my daughters naturally and I really felt that I got the birth I wanted with them although I was in a hospital.
I love being a doula and feel that I am able to help women get the birth they want.
I am a fully recognised and certified birth doula with both Doula UK and Nurturing Birth.
Alongside my doula work I am now training to be a homeopath specialising in pregnancy, childbirth and children.
